GRADE ELEVEN STUDENT “Sir, the first person to ever write a poem—what do you think the poem was about?”

ME “That’s a good question. I have no clue.”

HIM “I bet it was a love poem from a guy.”

ME “What makes you think that?”

HIM “Because guys put a lot of thought into new ways to get girls.”

CUE LAUGH TRACK

It’s lunchtime and I’m playing some Bon Jovi on the stereo, and a grade nine student walks in.

HER “Sir, every time I come here while you’re playing your music, it makes me feel like I’m walking into an old eighties sitcom.”

ME “How do you know what the eighties were like?”

HER “It feels corny.”

ME “It’s like you were there.”
